Tips for Increasing Blog Traffic
1. Become an Expert on Site Analytics
It is imperative that you fully understand the analytics of your blog. I use Squarespace, but other blogs have similar tools. Become an expert at understanding what is causing people to come to your blog. Understand how to read "referrers" information.
2. Leverage the Power of Search Engines
On my blog, referrals from Google searches far outweight anything else. Yes, some come from social media, but compared to Google, they don't amount to a hill of beans. Search engines rate your site's popularity based on the number of quality sites that link to your blog.
Note that links from social media "comments" are almost always disregarded.
Many people become so obsessed with trying to figure out how to "game" the system of SEO, they forget about the next point.
3. Develop Superior Content
Spending a lot of time on optimizing your site for SEO is a total waste of time, unless you have fantastic content.
4. Promote your Expertise
There are lots of ways to do this. Find online journals that features articles in your field. Submit reviews or critiques.
5. Network Yourself
Increasing traffic to your blog will take lots of time and energy. It's not a matter of "tricking" Google to show your site near the top. The reality is, when you are promoting your blog, you are also promoting yourself.
